Heading into the first round of district action with four straight defeats didn’t deter the Greene County Rams baseball team from pulling off an unlikely victory Friday night against the No. 8 Gilbert Tigers.
The Rams kept themselves in the game with the pitching of starter Austin Delp. Delp gave up three hits all game long, with the only run the Tigers scored coming on a sacrifice fly.
Singles from Carter Morton and Joe Anderson in the top of the seventh inning gave the Rams a tying run, and a HBP from David Richter with the bases loaded brought home the run that gave Greene County a 2-1 lead.
The Rams’ defense showed up strong in the bottom of the inning, with Bryce Stadler making a diving catch to seal a shocking win for the 10-22 Rams.
The Rams will play Boone on Monday night in Gilbert.
